Last year the little known H1N1 swine flu virus filled the newspapers as it raged across mexico and had health officials on both sides of the border and across the globe scrambling to figure out this new flu.

It was at first feared that the H1N1 would reek havoc across the globe , the true destructive nature  of a deadly flu material never materialized .  The reason is mainly because the quick reaction by health officials across the globe to help educate the public of simple things that should be done when facing such a menacing flu.  Things like covering your face when sneezing, avoid large crowds if you are sick with the flu, washing your hands and keeping your hands clean through out the day , especially when dealing with a lot of people or shaking hands.

This year it is worried that the H1N1  swine flu might be even more deadlier. Around the globe medical officials prepare for the flu season as the flu reappears again in the Northern Hemisphere for the winter months.

Who is at highest risk for swine flu ? Young people from the age of 3 -25 pose the highest risk in the general population, women who are pregnant, and people with underlining disease.   If you are any of these or are concerned about your child then the swine flu vaccine might be a good option for you to think about . You should contact your doctor and ask them for their opinion and when the vaccine will be coming  in .

Prevention of the H1N1 Swine Flu : As with the normal human flu , precaution should be taken when in public places and in association of people who are infected already.  When being around someone with the flu it is advised that you wear latex gloves and mask around the person , until fever breaks.  Make sure everything is kept clean in their area, and bedding washed.  You should wash your hands with a good soap or an alcohol based hand sanitizer.   People who are in the risk factor should receive the Swine Flu vaccine . The vaccine will not cause you to get the flu .  You should consult your doctor first before receiving any medication though .

I have the Swine Flu ! Now what ? : So you have caught the swine flu , you should immediately contact your doctor and go in for treatment and testing.  During this time you should avoid contact with people and stay in a secluded area of your home .  Wear a mask when out in public and wash your hands constantly to help prevent the spread of the flu.  Have people in your family also wear a mask and wash their hands when being around you or handling your items such as dishes , bedding or clothing.

The swine flu has fairly low death rate and the sooner you get help the higher your chances are for a full recovery.  The good news is that common flu medicine seem to work very well in combating the Swine Flu in early stages.  If you fear that you might be infected please go see your doctor immediately.  You do not have to panic millions of people already have been infected with the swine flu and only a few deaths have been reported.
